Adventure Activities In Ncc
The following adventure activities are carried out in NCC :-
Para Sailing: This aero sport is very popular among NCC cadets. Parasailing is the cheapest and the safest aerial sport. The parasailing is conducted under the arrangements of Gp HQs, which have been issued with parasail procured through Lgs Branch at this HQs. Parasailing during RDC is conducted by Delhi Dte, under HQ DG NCC during PM’s Rally.
Slithering: Slithering is organized under NCC Dte Delhi only during PM’s Rally. One MI 17 is provided by IAF on book debit basis.
Cycle/Motor Cycle Expeditions:
These are organized and conducted under the arrangement of respective state Dtes. Approval for conduct is required to be obtained from HQ DGNCC.
Allocation of Funds. For cycle/motorcycle expeditions state Dtes are require to arrange sponsors for funding the events. However, state NCC Dtes request for funds for such activities. The funds for the same are allotted from CWS.
Mountaineering Expeditions.
Aim. To put selected boys and girl cadets through the mechanics of planning, preparation and conduct of mountaineering expedition.
Organisation. The expedition tem consist of the following :-
(i) Leader - 01
(ii) Dy Leader - 01
(iii) MO - 01
(iv) Cadets - 20
(v) PI Staff - 17
Conduct. Every year two expeditions are launched as under :-
(i) Boys Expedition - May – Jun
(ii) Girls Expedition - Aug – Sep
Selection of Peak.
(a) Since the members of the expedition in the NCC are cadets who are college students and do not have adequate experience in climbing, safety factor is kept first and foremost in mind at the time of selection of the peak.
(b) Peaks are selected in consultation with Indian Mountaineering Federation, New Delhi. The height of the peak is generally kept between 5900-6500 meters and technically difficult peaks are normally avoided.
All India Trekking Expeditions
Aim. The aims of organizing these treks are as under :-
(a) Inculcate spirit of adventure, exploration, inquisitiveness and practical investigation, amongst the cadets. .
(b) Develop stamina, endurance, self-confidence, team spirit and espirit-de-corps.
(c) Develop love for nature, mountains, flora and fauna.
Organisation. Ten All India treks are organized each year as under :-
(a) Boys. 07 treks organized by NCC Dte UP & UC,Gujarat, Bihar, Kerala, Kar & Goa, Maharashtra and NER.
(b) Girls. 03 treks organized by NCC Dte TN & AN, PHHP&C and WB & Sikkim.
(c) Mixed Trek. One additional trek for 500 cadets(mixed) is conducted to the Valley of Flower by UP Dte.
Strength. Strength of each trek (less Valley of Flower Trek) is 1000 cadets consisting of 08 batches of 125 cadets each.
Conduct. To avoid treks from becoming a boring slogging march and to increase the educational value of the trek, the following activities are also organized during the trek :-
a. Map reading, route marking, use of compass.
b. Field signals and voice/whistle signals.
c. Drill for crossing obstacles, danger prone areas.
d. Study of life style, religious belief, social peculiarities.
e. Study of flora and fauna.
f. Visit of historical monuments, religious places or tourist resorts enroute.
g. Group singing, community singing and informal cultural shows.
h. Group games.
i. Visit of defence units/installations.
Adventure Courses
Para Basic Course. Para Basic course is being conducted at Army Airborne Trg School (AATS). Agra during Sep & Nov every year.
Conduct.The Para Basic course is conducted as under :-
(a) Vacancies for the course are demanded from MT Dte Army HQs.
(b) 40 boy and 40 girl cadets vacancies are allotted by MT Dte.
(c) The course is conducted under arrangements of Gp HO Agra on behalf of DGNCC.
(d) Cadet are given 03 descents from AN-32 Aircraft.
(e) Duration of the course is 20 days.
Mountaineering Courses
HQ DGNCC provide opportunity to the NCC Cadet to undergo specialized courses in mountaineering at the following institutions :-
(a) Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling.
(b) Directorate of Mountaineering & Allied Sports, Manali.
(c) Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi
Types of Courses. The following courses are conducted at the above institutions :-
(a) Basic Mountaineering Course - one month duration
(b) Advance Mountaineering Course - -do-
(c) Adventure Course - 10-15 days
(d) Search & Rescue Course - -do-
(e) Method of Instruction - -do-
Allotment of Vacancies . Vacancies are allotted by the Institutes for boys and girls for all the courses. These vacancies are sub allotted to the state Dtes as per the requirements projected by each Dte. Appox 300 vacancies are allotted for these courses.
Funds. Centre and the states share the course fee at the ratio of 50 : 50. The necessary sanction from the Govt of India, MoD is obtained as per the fee tructure of the Institutes.
Camel Safari
NCC Dte Rajastan organizes Camel Safari each year in Nov. 20 cadets take part in the Safari Foreign cadets also participated in this camp. Funds are provided by MoD.
Proposed New Activities
White Water Rafting .A node has been established at Haridwar under UP & UA Dte. Lgs Dte had procured six white water rafts.
Hot Air Balooning. A Hot Air Ballooning Node is being est at Bhopal.
