Girl Cadet Instructor’s ( GCI’S)
Background
1. At inception, the instructional staff cadre was manned by service personnel. In 1963,shortage of regular service personnel, forced the Government to introduce an exclusive instructional cadre for the NCC. Male Cadet Instructors for Boys Battalions and Girl Cadet Instructors for Girls Battalions were recruited on contractual basis as an ad-hoc arrangement.
2. With improvement in the manning position by service personnel in the 70s and 80s,the Government phased out the cadre of Male Cadet Instructors. However, the cadre of GCI’s were allowed to continue because of their functional necessity and because the cadre enthused tremendous interest amongst girls in schools and colleges to join the NCC.
3. The Girls Cadet Instructor (GCI) is a cadre unique to NCC. The cadre has been created with the purpose to look after the girl cadets as a guardian. The GCIs are responsible for all administrative requirements and arrangements during the camps and other training activities involving the girl cadets.
